Alumni from Ethiopia met for a virtual follow-up event in July, one and a half years after completing training in Germany. The group talked about financial performance and another key topic everyone was very invested in: resilience. The 21 entrepreneurs enjoyed the reunion at the digital meeting organised by the IMAP training centre.<\/p>\n

The pandemic had put them all through some challenging months, but everyone agreed participating in the MP had really helped them make it through. At the follow-up, alumni \u2013 all members of the 2019 Ethiopian pilot group \u2013 enthusiastically exchanged their experiences from the past year, shared results, and discussed current difficulties and opportunities.<\/p>\n

The agenda also included an advanced training module on resilience and coping with the changes brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In this session, alumni expanded on their knowledge of change management from the Manager Training Programme and learned more about their own resilience and how to strengthen it. Participants also discussed factors that influence resilience, like acceptance, a positive attitude in crisis situations, and a social network.<\/p>\n

At the follow-up, alumni noted three core skills they relied on for crisis management during the pandemic: expertise in marketing, negotiation and change management. These topics were covered during training in Germany and alumni were subsequently able to leverage their know-how successfully. “I remember it was a real game changer,” one Ethiopian entrepreneur said, looking back on taking part in the Programme.<\/p>\n

Monika\u00a0<\/span>Stienecker<\/span>\u00a0from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and representatives of the MP’s local partner, the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0also joined the virtual event<\/span>: Assefa\u00a0<\/span>Mulugeta<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kondal<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Director General Export Promotion Directorate General<\/span>, and his deputy\u00a0<\/span>Haimanot<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tibebu<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kassaye<\/span>. Monika\u00a0<\/span>Stienecker<\/span>\u00a0emphasi<\/span>s<\/span>ed the importance of sustainable economic development and\u00a0<\/span>affirmed<\/span>\u00a0that<\/span>\u00a0although cooperation with Ethiopia\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0the Manager Training Program<\/span>me<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>currently in\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0pilot phase,\u00a0<\/span>results ha<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0prove<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0very<\/span>\u00a0promising<\/span>\u00a0so far<\/span>. Ethiopian partners confirmed the<\/span>ir<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>dedication to<\/span>\u00a0bilateral cooperation and assured participants that the Ethiopian government\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>very\u00a0<\/span>interested in<\/span>\u00a0working closely with the Ethiopian private sector. Assefa\u00a0<\/span>Mulugeta<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kondal<\/span>\u00a0praised the MP as an excellent<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>opportunity\u00a0<\/span>for<\/span>\u00a0exporting<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Ethiopia’s predominantly agricultural products. He\u00a0<\/span>noted that the<\/span>\u00a0German market\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span>\u00a0particularly challenging\u00a0<\/span>because it places such high demands on<\/span>\u00a0quality<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>which made this<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>unique form of<\/span>\u00a0support from Germany<\/span>\u00a0very welcome<\/span>. At the same time, the\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>rogram<\/span>me<\/span>\u00a0g<\/span>ave<\/span>\u00a0German companies access to a growth market,\u00a0<\/span>Kondal<\/span>\u00a0added<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>“Our relationship is a win-win situation”.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
