When Nahid Hasanov came to Germany in autumn 2009 as part of the BMWi Manager Training Programme, he was still working as head of the purchasing department at Embawood<\/i>, a large Azerbaijani furniture manufacturer. During his one-month stay, he undertook eight individual company visits in addition to the programme itself. As a result, he signed a series of contracts, purchased product samples and familiarised himself with quality control systems. His stay was a complete success.<\/p>\n

His company\u2019s management team recognised this success, and subsequently named Hasanov managing director of Embawood Turkey<\/i>. The newly established Istanbul-based subsidiary was charged with developing a new production plant for seating, organising exports and ensuring efficient logistics.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur company sources some of its raw materials from Turkey, hence the suggestion for a local production base,\u201d he says of the strategic thinking behind the idea. \u201cAnd the products are intended for export to Georgia, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n
Within a very short space of time, Hasanov was able to open a production site in D\u00fczce, 250 km east of Istanbul. Twenty-six local employees use German sewing machines to make sofas and armchairs to Azerbaijani designs. The first trial delivery was made to Georgia in mid-November 2010.<\/p>\n
And that was just the beginning. Series production began in 2011, with 600 suites to be delivered per month in the first year, and 900 in the second. A team of 15 employees is on hand to assist the managing director with organisation and logistics.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really enjoy this work, not only because it represents a step forward in my career, but because it gives me the opportunity to use my experiences and knowledge. The experience gained in Germany plays a major role in this.\u201d<\/p>\n
